Americanization in the U.S. Virgin Islands has led to the proliferation of American sports such as baseball and basketball. While a sport more popular in the English-speaking Caribbean, cricket, has been informally played since then which signifies that even before the Americans lead over the U.S. Virgin Islands they have recreations of their own.
Since the Islands have accepted the American sports they have produced skillful athletes known to the world such as Tim Duncan, playing center and power forward for the San Antonio Spurs since the beginning of his career. He is a five time NBA champion and fourteen time NBA all star. For the baseball, their man is Callix Crabbe, a former baseman of Major League Baseball. One of his greatest plays was with Nashville, where he led the team in 120 games played, 457 at-bats, 131 hits, 84 runs scored, 9 triples, 17 stolen bases, and 67 walks.
On the other hand, a city in U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Croix is known to be home to some of the most competitive events under the sun. With its challenging race courses, deep troughs and temperate waters, the place is undeniably suitable for triathlons and sport fishing competitions. They have joined the Olympics since 1968 missing the Summer Olympics of 1980 when they joined the boycott of the Moscow Olympic Games and the 2010 Winter Olympics. The only Olympic medal that they have received was brought by Peter Holmberg for sailing in the 1988 Summer Olympics held in Seoul, South Korea.
