Triathlon at the Commonwealth Games

Triathlon is one of the core Commonwealth Games sports. After being a demonstration event in 1990, triathlon has been on the program in 2002 and 2006 and again from 2014 until 2022. Triathlon was one of the sports dropped for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Originally the Commonwealth Games triathlon was held over the Olympic distance, which comprise a 1.5 km swim followed by 40 km cycling and a 10 km run. Since 2018, the individual triathlon is held over a 'sprint distance', which is a 750m swim followed by 20 km cycling and a 5 km run.

There was a men's and women's triathlon, and men's and women's para-triathlon events, and since 2014, a triathlon mixed-relay event. The mixed-relay consisted of teams of four athletes, comprising two men and two women. Each athlete completed a mini triathlon of swimming, cycling and running (250m swim, 5km bike and 1.2km), before tagging their team mate.
