The men’s marathon at the 1948 London Olympic Games in Great Britain was won by Argentinian runner Delfo Cabrera. Here is a video of the start of the marathon. The men’s marathon at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games in Germany was won by Japanese runner Kee-Chung Sohn. He was actually Korean-born but ran in Japanese colors because his country was occupied by Japan at the time. Here is a classic 10-minute movie recording of the marathon. A good highlight film of the 1954 World Cup Final (with some footage in color) played at the Wankdorf Stadium in Berne, Switzerland, between Germany and Hungary. West Germany were the underdogs, and ended up winning 3-2. In Germany this game is referred to as “Das Wunder von Bern” (“The Miracle of Berne”), and a German film of the same name was made in 2003.
