Demonstration of body composition testing as part of the Next Testing Skating Combine protocol. Recorded is body fat percentage and lean muscle mass measured using a Tanita body composition analyzer. The complete combine for ice hockey also includes other fitness tests and 14 on-ice tests. See more about Next Testing.

Underwater Weighing Technique
December 30th, 2009 · No Comments · Anthropometry
Ryan performing underwater weighing (hydro-static weighing) to determine body density and subsequently percentage body fat. See how he blows all the air out of his lungs. This is a necessary step as it can affect his buoyancy and therefore the weight measured in the water.
Body Density and Underwater Weighing
December 30th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Anthropometry
Another excellent video by Dr Anthony Bull, giving an introduction to body composition assessment, particularly the basics of fat, muscle, and body density, and the method of hydrostatic weighing to estimate body density and thus body fat.
Jackson and Pollock Skinfold Calculations
December 30th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Anthropometry
A video of a lecture on calculating percentage body fat from skinfold measurements. It is not very exciting, but gives a practical example of using the equations to calculate body fat levels. See more about the Jackson & Pollock body density equations.

Lower and Mid Body Skinfold Landmarks
December 30th, 2009 · No Comments · Anthropometry
Dr Exercise demonstrates the landmarks used for the common skinfold meaurements of the lower and mid body sections. See also his other videos. He uses a skeleton to demonstrate the boney landmarks to help you understand what points of the body to use to accurately and consistently measure the skinfold meaurements. It is a long video but well worth having a look.

Upper Body Skinfold Landmarks

Dr Exercise give the low down on the landmarks used for the common skinfold meaurements of the upper body. He uses a skeleton to demonstrate the boney landmarks to help you understand what points of the body to use to accurately and consistently measure the skinfold meaurements. It is a long video but well worth having a look.

Demonstration of Skinfold Sites
December 30th, 2009 · No Comments · Anthropometry
This is a clear demonstration of the skinfold measurement sites: biceps, pectoralis, iliac crest, abdominal, triceps and subscapular. The assessor is using a Slim Guide Skinfold Caliper which provide good accurate measurements of skinfolds. It is best to mark all measurement sites prior to testing, though experienced examiners like the one here here can go by feel and perform the measurements more quickly.
