St Helena is a 308 sq km Island in the Atlantic, with a population of 7000. It is a UK overseas territory and one of the most remote participants in the Commonwealth Games. It lies 1931 kms from the coast of Angola in Africa and is a volcanic and mountainous island. St Helena first competed at the Games in 1970.

- The British overseas territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha is generally known simply as "Saint Helena". At the Games in 1982, 1998, 2002, 2006 it comepted under the name St Helena, and in subsequent years as their full title.
- St Helena is the smallest nation represented at the Commonwealth Games.
- Saint Helena has never won a medal at the Commonwealth Games.
- Access to St Helena is by boat so the logistics of travel make taking part in the Games a real challenge. In 2016 an airport wil open on the island, making travel much easier.
