The Summer Redneck Games started in 1996 as an alternative to the Olympic Games being held in Atlanta, Georgia, in response to a lot of jokes being made about a bunch of rednecks hosting the Olympics. It is now held annually, gradually increasing in popularity and attendance.
Due to the controversy of using the term Olympics (the IOC are not too happy about being associated with some rednecks, apparently), in 2013 they were forced to change the name of the event to the "Maine Redneck 'Blank' Games".
The events include the following:
- Mud Pit Belly Flop
- Seed Spitting Contest
- Hubcap Hurl
- Armpit Serenade
- The Bobbin' for Pig's Feet Fest
- Redneck Horseshoes — in which toilet seats instead of horseshoes are the objects thrown.
