The South Pacific island of Niue is self governing in free association with New Zealand. It is a coral island stretching 19km from north to south covering an area of less than 260 sq kms. It lies 480km east of Tonga and 930kms west of the Cook Islands.
Niue made its debut in the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester competing in athletics, boxing, rugby and shooting.
A notable competitor for Niue at the Commonwealth Games is the nation’s Premier, Dalton Tagelagi. He has competed in three consecutive Games (2014-2022) as part of Niue’s bowls team.
In 2022, Niue won its first-ever medal at the Commonwealth Games, thanks to Boxer Duken Tutakitoa-Williams.
