Here are the archived results from a poll that ran on this site in 2013. Wrestling was dropped from the core sports list in early 2013, and joined seven other sports on a shortlist for inclusion: roller sports, karate, softball & baseball (joint bid), squash, sport climbing, wakeboard and wushu. The poll asked which sport you thought should be the next to get the nod? To have your say on the next sport to be included in the Olympic program, see the similar current poll about sports to be added to the Olympics.
Which of these sports should be included into the Olympics?
Based on this poll of 1291 people, karate was the clearly most popular sport to be included next into the Olympic program - but it did not make the shortlist of Baseball-softball, squash and wrestling. In September 2013 wrestling was announced as the sport to be put on the program, meaning that it was never off it! See the latest poll on which sports should be added to the Olympics.

- The Martial Art Disciplines of self defense, fighting, have existed in men's life since the beginning of history. Unfortunate, man is "Belico", ihe is always in War, threatening our existence with Fighting Agianst each other. KARATEDO comes from that history, but, with a strong back bone of philosophy in moral values, principles, self control, humbleness, respect, discipline and Goodness plus other extraordinary qualities that men learn to develop and become better human beings. All of hollywoods action movies have in some way little or a lot of KARATEDO techniques, its presence in our life is so enormes, so I have no doubt that KARATEDO will be a huge success in the Olimpics in 2020 and for ever. (from Ruben Canedo, Feb 2013)

- THE WAY OF KARATE ... Pass by Olympics 2020. Karate is characterized as the silent force that varies racing and likened as the sea is calm, but sometimes rough. The spectacle is exciting because it combines technical applications of kicks, punches and twists. The confirmation of the rule is that the SPORT CULTURE, amply proved once again, this time at the World Karate Championship in Paris (21-25 November 2012). It deifies 15,000 spectators standing all contestants (winners and losers), sending their own message, the values to be recognized and rewarded. The event took place at the Olympic Games standards, paving the way Karate for full membership in the 2020 Olympics and at last let logic prevail to the leaders and let them practice the vision and desire of millions of people around the planet Earth, but value to the sport of the 21st century ginseng will hold this position ...! (from bob Oraiopoulos, Makedanos Karate club, Feb 2013)
- Hands off the ancient sports! Leave wrestling, practised by thousands world-wide alone! After all, this sport was one of the "founding games" of the Olympics. Furthermore, include (1) Karate one of the oldest practised sports in the world and has an extremely world-wide following; (2) Squash has one of the great racket games played all over the world. Exclude Baseball & Softball are only played in America and as far as I'm aware, isn't as well-played world wide and these 2 shouldn't be included as Olympic sports. (from Louisa M, Feb 2013)
- Why was wrestling removed from the Olympics? I attend the NCAA's every year and there have been record crowds in attendance each year. That tells me that the interest is growing. My twin sons are crushed. They have been training for the Olympics and now the dreams they have are no longer possible. Bad move bt the IOC. Bring wrestling back. (from Richard Agee, Feb 2013)
