England is part of the nation of the United Kingdom. It is bounded by Scotland, Wales, the North Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the English Channel. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, England returned to the top of the medal table, the last time they led the medal tally was in 1986.

- England is one of only six nations have attended every Commonwealth Games (The others are Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales).
- Traditionally one of the powerhouses of Commonwealth sport, England won 61 medals at the first games in 1930, and currently rank second to Australia on the all time medal winners list.
- England have hosted the Games on two occasions, in London during 1934 and most recently in 2002 in the North West region of England and the city of Manchester. In 2022, Birmingham will host the Games.
- The Commonwealth Games is the only multi-sport international event where England competes as a nation.
- Englishman Jack Holden won the 1950 marathon in Auckland, despite being bitten by a dog.
