The Ballon d'Or award is an annual football award for the best international player from the previous year.
Below are the nominees in the final order after voting for the 2018 award. The winner was Luka Modrić. He was the first Croat to win the award, and he won easily over previous winner Cristiano Ronaldo. The 2018 award was the first time since Kaká in 2007 that a player other than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo won, ending a 10-year dominance by those two players. See the list of all Ballon d'Or winners.
The Kopa Trophy for the world's best young men's player was first awarded in 2018. 2018 was also the first time the women's Ballon d'Or award was presented (called the Ballon d'Or Féminin).
