Washer Pitching
Washer pitching is target throwing game similar to horseshoes, in which players take turns to toss washers into a box or hole. The game is mostly played in the United States and Canada.
There are several variations of game play depending on the location in which the game is played. In most variations the objective is to throw metal washers, about 1/8 inch thick and two inches in diameter into a washer pit. The boxes used as pits vary in size, but the standard is a 16 × 16 × 4in box with a cylindrically cup on top. For game play, two boxes placed 20ft apart will be used.
During game play, players from one team stand close to their washer pit, and attempt to throw the washers onto the opponent’s box. Players can throw the washers in any manner they choose to, but most players prefer to throw underarm.
Points scoring is similar to that of horseshoes, where a team can wash-out/rebut the points scored by the other team and then score more points towards their total. Teams score 3 points for each non-rebutted washer in the ring and 1 point for each non-rebutted washer in the box. The team to first score 21 points is the winner.
