St Vincent and the Grenadines at the Olympics
The caribbean nation of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines made its debut in the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympic Games and it has participated in the quadrennial meet since then. The nation is yet to win any medal in the Olympics.
The St Vincent and the Grenadines’ National Olympic Committee was incepted in 1982 and was acknowledged by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1987.
In 2012 edition of the Olympics, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines was represented by three athletes: Courtney Carl Williams (100-meter run, athletics), Kineke Alexander (440-meter run, athletics) and Tolga Akcayli (50-meter freestyle).
In the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympic Games, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines sent a small delegation which is comprised of two middle-distance runners and swimmers. All of the nation’s athlete failed to get past the preliminary round. Brandon Valentine-Parris finished seventh on his heat in the men’s 400-meter run and Kineke Alexander also wounded up seventh on her heat in the women’s 400-meter run. Over at the pool, Nikolas Sylvester placed 61st in the men's 50-m freestyle and Izzy Joachim finished 38th in the women's 100-m breaststroke.
Trivia
- As part of the West Indies Federation, St Vincent and the Grenadines were represented at the 1960 Olympic Games, though no athletes from St Vincent and the Grenadines were in the team.
