The tiny nation of Seychelles, which is nestled in the Indian Ocean, first competed at the Summer Olympic Games in 1980 and participated in all Games ever since. The nation boycotted the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympic Games in support of North Korea.
Seychelles is still seeking its first-ever medal in the quadrennial meet.
A total of 10 athletes from Seychelles competed in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympic Games. Seychellois sportsman of the year, Rodney Govinden was the country’s flagbearer. Govinden competed in sailing and took the 41st spot in the men's laser event.
The other notable Seychellois in the Olympics are Ned Justeen Azemia (men’s 400-m hurdles event in athletics, 43rd), Lissa Labiche (women's high jump event in athletics, 29th) and Allan Julie men's laser event in sailing, 22nd).
