Senegal at the Olympics
African nation Senegal made its maiden appearance at the Summer Olympics in 1964 and has sent athletes in the Olympiad since then.
Great Britain v Senegal at London 2012The nation so far won an Olympic medal, that is, a silver, courtesy of Amadou Dia Ba who clocked of 48.81 seconds in the 400 meters hurdles in 1988 Seoul Summer Olympic Games in the track and field competition.
In the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympic Games the nation sent 22 athletes that competed in track and field, women’s basketball, canoeing, fencing, judo, taekwondo, swimming and wrestling.
Senegal had a chance of nailing its second medal in the Olympics, but Isabelle Sambou lost her match to Nataliya Synyshyn of Azerbaijan in the repechage in the women’s wrestling freestyle -53kg division and finished 8th. The nation’s basketball team which had won the African Championships placed sixth and last on its Group Play and bombed out of the competition.
