Nigeria's national football team is nicknamed the Super Eagles. They have had six appearances at the World Cup.
Their best result in the World Cup was reaching the second round in 1994, 1998 and 2014. Nigeria at the 2002 and 2010 FIFA World Cup finished bottom of their pool and therefore were knocked out in the first round. In 2018 they did not make it past the group stage. They did not qualify in 2022.
Trivia
- After their poor performance in 2010, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan banned the team from international competitions for two years, in a bid to sort out the team.
