There are numerous eSports competitions and tournaments which are organized every year, and are growing in number and popularity. Esport was originally based around role playing fighting games, but has extended to online sports games and now even remote augmented reality competitions in which the participants physically proform the activity.
Major International eSports Games
- Olympic eSports Games — The IOC has proposed to create the Olympic Esports GamesĀ
- Olympic Esports Series — an Olympic Games-style esports event held annually since 2023.
- eSports at the Olympic Games — there have been demonstration esports events around the time of the 2016, 2018 and 2021 Olympic Games.
- eSports at the Asian Games — e-sports were a demonstration sport at the 2018 Asian Games, and was a medal event for the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
- eSports at the Commonwealth Games — the Commonwealth Esports Championships held at the same time as the Commonwealth Games.
- World Cyber Games — a major international esports competition that has been held annually since 2000.
- Global Esports Games — the inaugural event was held in Singapore in December 2021, and has been held annually since.
- eGames — an international multi-sport gaming tournament, held in Rio 2016.
- Games of the Future — a phygital sports competition first held in 2024.

- FIFAe World Cup — an annual esports tournament by FIFA and EA Sports, featuring top FIFA video game players.
