Denmark made its debut at the Winter Olympic Games in St. Moritz, Switzerland in 1948 and has only missed participating three times (1956, 1972 and 1984).
Denmark has just won one medal at the Winter Games thanks to it curling team that won silver medal in the women’s team event at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympic Games. The Nordic nation’s curling team, composed of Jane Bidstrup, Dorthe Holm, Helena Blach Lavrsen, Margit Pörtner and Trine Qvist, placed second behind gold medal winner Canada, while Sweden finished third.
The small Scandinavian nation is still seeking to win its first-ever gold medal at the Winter Games. The lack of medal success of Denmark is surprising considering its neighbors Norway, Finland and Sweden which are among the top contenders at the Winter Games.
