Cabo Verde (previously known as Cape Verde) is a country with 10 islands that are mostly volcanic in the Atlantic Ocean. They have one of the best places for windsurfing and kiteboarding. As a matter of fact, the 2008 Kite Surfing World Champion in the wave discipline, Mitu Monteiro is a Cabo Verdean.
But water sports is not the only sport that there is in Cabo Verde. Football is quite big in this country, internationally their national football team is not making much footprint but they did win a few matches like the 3 - 2 win against Cameroon in October 2012 which qualified them for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 for the very first time.
There are also a lot of Cabo Verdeans or has Cabo Verdean blood who plays for various teams from France, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden and Switzerland. Players like Jorge Andrade (Porto, Juventus), Nani (Manchester United), Rolando (Inter Milan) and Nélson (Benfica, Real Betis, Osasuna and now Palermo). Henrik Larsson, Patrick Vieira, Patrice Evra, Luc Castaignos and Gelson Fernandes.
As far as the ultimate international sport stage, the Olympics, Cabo Verde has never won any medal since they joined the Summer Olympic Games in 1996. However, they have improved their ranking in men's marathon from 94 (1996) to 48 in 2008.
