Bulgaria have qualified for the World Cup seven times - 1962, 1966, 1970, 1974, 1986, 1994, and 1998.
Trivia
- Experienced Bulgarian player Hristo Stoichkov had a goal disallowed in a 1994 finals match against Nigeria on 21 June 94, because it was an indirect free kick. This was not the only time that a player made such a careless mistake in World Cup finals. A free-kick goal by Belgian Enzo Scifo was disallowed in the group match against Paraguay on 11 June 1986 for the same reason.
