3x3 (also called streetball or street basketball) is an informal variation of basketball that is played widely all around the world. The 3x3 form of the game is played with two teams of three players, with one hoop. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) created a set of rules for 3x3 basketball and have organized international competitions in the sport. The sport made its first appearance on the international stage at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games.
This sport is played on a half court with just one basket and it has essentially the same rules as of basketball. The ball used is of size 6 basketball size, but with the weight of a size 7. Jump ball is not used to start each game, instead a coin toss is done before starting the game. Every successful ball shot inside the arc of the court is given a point, where every ball shot behind the arc is awarded two points. This sport is played for a duration of 10 minutes with a total number of points of 21. The first team to score 21 wins.
The FIBA 3x3 World Championship was first played in 2012, and played every two years. There are three types of events in the FIBA 3x3 World Championships, which are Men, Women and Mixed. Each team has a total number of 4 players, 3 on the court and 1 on the bench. In the mixed team event of this sport, each team has 2 men and 2 women.
