Here are some of the sporting highlights in the world of sport for 1937.
Hilde Krahwinkel Sperling won the French Open for the third straight year. It was also her final grand slam title. Dorothy Round Little also won her third and final slam that year at Wimbledon. Unlike Hilde, who had no success in other slams besides the French Open, Dorothy has a Australian Open win under her belt.
Though Don Budge's slam winning days lasted only for two years, the success has not been matched by anyone till this day. He won six consecutive slams starting with Wimbledon on that year and finishing with the US Open the following year.
Women's Western Open was the only major event conducted for women's golf up until that year in which Titleholders Championship was introduced as a second major tournament. Patty Berg won the inaugural tournament and went to win the event two more years in a row for a three-pete. She won the event four more times in the future and finished her career with 15 majors, a record which stands to this date as the most majors won by a women.
