Here are some of the sporting highlights in the world of sport for 1935.
Gene Sarazen is one among the small group of golfers who have won all the four majors. He won the newly inaugurated major, the Masters Tournament, for his seventh and last major title. Sam Parks, Alf Perry, and Johnny Revolta won the U.S. Open, The Open Championship, and the PGA Championship respectively for the only major wins of their career.
Opal Hill won the only women's major tournament conducted that year for her first career title. She also repeated at the event the following year for her second career major win.
Helen Wills Moody, one of the all-time great women's tennis player, won the Wimbledon Championships for the seventh time in her career. She also won, Wimbledon one more time in the future, the US Open on seven different occasions, and the French Open four times, to finish her spectacular career with 19 total grand slam titles.
Fred Perry continued his amazing run at the grand slam events from the previous year by winning two more grand slam titles at the French Open and Wimbledon. His run also continued in the following year where he picked up two more slam titles. Jack Crawford won the Australian Open for the fourth time which was his sixth and final win at a grand slam event.
