Here are some of the sporting highlights in the world of sport for 1932. It was the year of the Olympics and the Summer Games was held in Los Angeles, United States and the Winter Games was held in New York, United States. The hosting nation dominated the summer games winning a total of 103 medals which included 41 gold medals. Though the winter games was not a stronghold of the hosting nation United States, they put on a great show and came out on top with 12 total medals.
In men's tennis, Ellsworth Vines had an extremely successful year. He won Wimbledon for his second career grand slam title and followed it up by defending his US Open win from the previous year for his third slam title. That was however the last slam win for Vines who finished his career with three slam wins. Henri Coche won the French Open for the fourth time, and for his seventh and final grand slam title.
In women's tennis, Joan Hartigan Bathurst, Margaret Scriven Vivian, Helen Wills Moody, and Helen Jacobs, won the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open respectively. Though all players finished their careers with multiple slam titles, Helen's feat of 19 grand slam wins has her placed fourth on the list of all-time slam winners even today.
