Here are some of the sporting highlights in the world of sport for 1921.
Léon Scieur won the Tour de France that year. It was the sixth straight year a Belgian had won the event.
In golf, Jim Barnes, Jock Hutchison, and Walter Hagen, all multiple major winners, took the U.S. Open, The Open Championship, PGA Championship respectively. It was Barnes's first win at the event and his third major title. For Hutchison, it was his second and final major win. Hagen took the event four more time in the future and finished his career with 11 total majors, which has him placed third in the all-time major winners list.
Bill Tilden successfully defended both his Wimbledon and US Open titles from the previous year to earn his third and fourth career slam titles. Success at Wimbledon remained elusive for Tilden after that year with his next title coming after an eight year drought. But he had a contrasting performance at the US Open in that span, winning it consecutively in the next four years and one more time before he retired.
Suzanne Lenglen won Wimbledon for the third straight year. She went on to win the event two more times in the following two years as well to achieve a feat of five consecutive wins at Wimbledon, which has since been surpassed only by Martina Navratilova.
