The Unified Team that competed at the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympic Games was composed of athletes from 6 of the 15 republics of the former Soviet Union namely: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Russia, and Uzbekistan. The Unified Team competed only once at the Winter Games.
The joint team used the IOC country code EUN, which was derived from the French Equipe Unifiée. When an EUN individual competitor won a medal, the winning athlete’s national flag was raised instead of the Olympic flag, and the winner’s national anthem was played instead of the Olympic Hymn.
The mighty Unified Team finished second with a medal haul of 9 gold, 6 silver and 8 bronze medals behind Germany in the medal table. The team earned medals in cross-country skiing, figure skating, biathlon, ice hockey and freestyle skiing.
