World's 'Greatest' Sports

Here is a list of the top 10 most popular sports, as voted for on the website www.the-top-tens.com. Soccer is second on the list (it was on top when this list was last updated in 2020). We expect this order may change over time as the voting is ongoing. There is a similar list from another online poll, which has soccer at the top as people's favorite sport.

The votes here are based on what the site visitors think are the 'greatest sports' - whatever that may mean. Depending on the person, 'Greatest' may mean the sport they love to play or love to watch, or what they think is the world's most popular.

The website visitors may be predominantly from the USA, which will bias what they consider to be the greatest sports. In line with the high number of internet users from the USA, American sports rank high on this list, with basketball higher than soccer, which is usually on top of such lists. At one time the vote percentage was included with the results, though that has been removed so it is not clear how the sports rank compared to each other.
