- Right-handed ladies table tennis player Jian-Fang Lay is one of Australia's all-time greats of the sport. She has represented Australia at a record five Olympic Games (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016). In 2016 she joined Natalie Cook (beach volleyball) and Mary Hanna (equestrian) as the only women to have competed at five Olympic Games for Australia.
- Australia's most successful athletes have been Jian-Fang Lay in the women's event with equal 17th in 2016, and William Henzell in the men's event also with an equal 17th in 2012.
- The most successful Australian team result was the women's doubles pairing of Miao Miao and Shirley Zhou in Sydney 2000, who placed 5th.
