The International System of Units (SI) unit for speed or velocity is meters per second (m/s). The unit symbol for kilometers (also spelled kilometers outside of the US) per hour is km/h or km·h−1, though the colloquial abbreviations "kph" and "kmph" are sometimes also occasionally used. For miles per hour the units symbol commonly used is mph.
