The sport Shinda Kabutomushi, meaning Dead Beetle, was created by Tetsuro Hashimoto from Edison, NJ in July 1982. It is a combination of tennis, rugby, and swimming.

22 players. 44 tennis rackets. One pool. One rugby ball.
Description
Players enter the pool in teams of two, but they are playing on larger teams of twelve. Each team enters on same side and one swims to other side. Each player has a tennis racket taped to each hand.
At the start the referee throws a rugby ball into the center of the pool. Players must swim underwater to retrieve the ball and once gotten can start the play. Players must hold the ball between their tennis rackets and try to get to any side of the pool.
If they touch the long side of the pool it is worth 5 points. If they touch the short side of the pool it is 10 points. Defensive players may prevent the players from touching the side of the pool only with their tennis rackets. For person to score he or she must be also touching his or her teammate. Play is two forty minute halves with thirty minute halftime period for eating.
