The Scarsdale Diet is another “eat your fill” diets, good for 7 days. It revolves around eating 43% protein, 34.5% carbohydrates and 22.5% fat. The first Scarsdale Medical Diet was published in 1978. The diet is still popular in France throughout the years.
The Scarsdale Diet consists of fresh fruits, lean meats and vegetables with 3 meals daily. There are no snacks in-between meals. You can eat a particular food as much as you like depending on certain parts of the menu.
It is important to add spices, seasonings, parsley and grated onions to your meal. Condiments like ketchup, chili sauce, mustard are allowed, also, salt, non-stick vegetable spray, cocktail sauce but consume only in moderation.
Breakfast every day includes half of a grapefruit or any type of seasonal fruits, a slice of toasted unbuttered protein bread, coffee or tea with no sugar, milk, cream and honey.
Sample Diet Meal Plan Day 1
Lunch
- Broiled or stewed tomato
- Any type o cold cuts
- Coffee, tea, water or diet soda
Dinner
- Green salad
- A slice of toasted protein bread
- Fish or shellfish
- Grapefruit or any type of seasonal fruit
- Coffee, tea, diet soda or water
During the diet, you may not be able to consume candies, desserts, fairy fats, corn, peas, potatoes, lentils, beans (except green or waxed), macaroni, spaghetti, frozen custard, frozen peas, ice cream, ice milk and any other flour-based products.
It is important to drink at least 4 glasses of water daily. Water is essential in flushing away toxins in your system and helps in losing weight.
You may also drink tea or coffee during mealtime because the caffeine helps increase of the metabolism temporarily. Soda water is also allowed.
This low-carb diet is not for those who have active lifestyles, children and teens who are still growing.
The Scarsdale Diet is all about eating until you are satisfied, not when you’re full. There is no portion indicated for your meals.
