Rwanda first made its appearance in the Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles 1984 and has sent delegations to the Olympiad since then. The African nation is still eyeing its first medal in the quadrennial meet.
In the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games, the nation sent seven athletes that competed in track and field, cycling, mountain biking and swimming. Unfortunately, all of the Rwandan athletes failed to nail a berth in the next round. The nation’s best performer of the Games was Adrien Niyonshuti who checked in 39th place in the men's cross-country in mountain biking.
In Rio Olympics, Rwandan National Olympic and Sports Committee (whose French equivalent is Comité National Olympique et Sportif du Rwanda) sent a token delegate of eight athletes in sports such as track and field, cycling, mountain biking and swimming. All of the nation’s athletes failed to reach the next round. The nation’s best performer in the Games was Salome Nyirarukundo who finished at 38th spot in the women’s 10,000 meter run in athletics.
