Russia at the Paralympic Games

Russian athletes first competed at the Paralympic Games as part of the Soviet Union at the 1988 Paralympics. In 1992, Russia competed as part of the Unified Team. The nation competed for the first time as Russia at the 1994 Winter Paralympics, and the 1996 Summer Paralympics.

Since that time, Russia has participated in every summer and winter edition up until the 2014 Winter Paralympics. Following a doping scandal in Russia, the Russian team was banned from participating in the 2016 Summer Paralympics. At the 2018 Winter Paralympics, the team was also banned though athletes were allowed to compete as Neutral Paralympic Athletes.

The troubles with the Russia team continued. Following the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops in early 2022, the Winter Paralympic athletes from Russia and Belarus were banned from competing at the 2022 Winter Paralympics in Beijing, and some comepeted as Neutral athletes in Paris 2024.

The Russian Winter Paralympic team has been very successful, finishing on top of the medal tally in 2006 and 2014, and second in 2010. Also, the Neutral Paralympic Athletes team finished second in 2018.
