Romania has participated in every Rugby World Cup since the first in 1987, except for in 2019. The team missed out on qualifying in 2019 after fielding ineligible players during the qualification process.
In 2023, they were back in the tournament In 2023, this time due to another team breaking the eligibility rules. Spain were kicked out and replaced by Romania after it was determined that Spain had fielded an ineligible player in qualifying, allegedly with the help of a forged passport.
Romania have never progressed past the first round.
