Poland at the Winter Olympics
Poland made its debut at the Winter Olympic Games in Chamonix, France in 1924 and has taken part at all Winter Olympics since then. The nation is strong in ski jumping, cross-country skiing, speed skating, biathlon and Nordic combined.
Poland won no medals from 1924 up to 1952, but Lady Luck finally smiled on the nation in the 1956 Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympic Games when Franciszek Gąsienica Groń won a bronze medal in the men’s individual event in Nordic combined.
The nation’s best finish at the Winter Games was its 11-medal haul (4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze) at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games which was good enough for 11th place.
Notable Polish athletes include cross-country skier Justyna Kowalczyk who captured 5 medals (2 gold, 1 sivler and 2 bronze) from 2006 to 2014 and ski jumper Kamil Stoch who won two gold medals in 2014.
