The Pacific Games are a multi-sport event similar to the Olympics with participating countries exclusively from around the South Pacific region only. The first Pacific Games event (then known as the South Pacific Games) was held in 1963. Australia (along with New Zealand) was first invited to attend in 2015.
At the 2015 Pacific Games held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, Australia finished sixth on the medal tally, with 47 medals, 17 of them gold. 43 athletes attended, mostly in the sports of taekwondo, rugby 7s and weight lifting.
The country again participated in the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa. A team of 42 athletes was sent for Australia's second appearance at the Pacific Games. Australia competed in six sports, again finishing sixth on the medal tally with 33 gold medals. Many of these medals came from the fifteen taekwondo athletes, with each winning gold in their event.
Australia participated in the 2023 Pacific Games to be held in Honiara, Solomon Islands. This was Australia's third appearance at the games, and they sent their largest group of athletes ever. Australia was represented by 75 athletes across eight sports: Athletics, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Judo, Sailing, Taekwondo and Weightlifting.
