Greg Norman: Golf

Gregory John Norman, AO (born: February 10, 1955), is an Australian professional golfer, winning more than 70 tournaments in the span of his entire career, including the 1986 and 1993 British Opens. Norman earned more than $10 million, becoming the first person in Tour history to earn that much. He became the world’s top-ranked golfer for 331 weeks ever since his career started in 1976 and continued for three decades.



Greatest Sporting Achievements

Norman won two British Opens – in 1986 and 1993. This Australian golfer became the number 1 ranked golfer during the 80s and 90s, winning over 85 international championships. Greg Norman won a total of 20 PGA Tour, 14 European Tour, 2 Japan Golf Tour and 31 PGA Tour of Australasia, making him the 3rd all-time top golfer to ever win so many times. He is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, became the Captain of Presidents Cup International in 2009 and 2011.

Why Was He So Good?

Greg Norman was known for his bold and aggressive style of play. He was golf’s greatest during his era, with great achievements who gained a reputation for falling short of expectations. He always believed his game is solid which made him feel confident. He was given the nickname “Great White Shark” by a newspaper reporter during the 1981 Masters for exhibiting all the characteristics of that deep-sea creature.
