Walking netball is a modified version of netball. It was developed to allow older and less mobile people to continue to play netball and improve their fitness. By only allowing play at a walking pace, it reduces the risk of injury while promoting a safe, non-threatening environment for play. It is a very inclusive version of netball, allowing everyone to participate regardless of physical fitness, age or previous netball experience.
In walking netball, the game time is reduced, each game is split into quarters of six or eight minutes. Substitutions can be made at any time. Obviously, no running or jumping is allowed. A player must always have at least part of one foot in contact with the court. A player may receive the ball with one foot grounded and then can take two steps while in possession of the ball, before it must be thrown or shot at goal. Players have four seconds to pass the ball. Most other rules are per regular netball.
The sport is played at a local, non-competitive level.
