Francesco Moser: Cycling
Francesco “Checco” Moser (born 19 June 1951), also known as “Lo sceriffo (The sheriff)”, is a former Italian professional road bicycle racer. He was one of the dominant racers of the mid 70s to the early 80s. Moser began his professional career in 1973.
Greatest Sporting Achievements
Francesco Moser won the four Giro d’Italia in 1984, two stages of the Tour de France in 1975 the 1977 world racing championship and six times and classics like Milan – San Remo, Paris – Tours, Paris – Roubaix, Gent – Wevelgem, Giro di Lombadia, La Fleche Wallonne and Zuri-Metzgete.
Why Was He So Good?
Checco’s natural pedal stroke gave him huge control. He was very daunting on a bicycle but his authoritative built only meant he wasn’t a gifted climber.

- His biggest rival was Giuseppe Saronni.
- After cycling, Moser became chairman of the Cyclistes Professionels Associes.
- He became part of Filotex (1975), Sanson (1976-1977), Famcucine (1977-1982), GIS (1983-1985), Supermercati (1986), Brianzoli (1987) and Chateau d’Ax (1988).
