Malaya at the Olympics
The Federation of Malaya, an 11-state federation composed of nine Malay states and two British settlements, was only in the Olympic Games twice before it was later expanded and became the modern day Malaysia.
Malaya competed at the Olympic Games in 1956 and 1960, before expanding their borders to include North Borneo and competing as Malaysia from 1964 onwards.
In 1956, they appeared in Melbourne, Australia with a delegation including 32 athletes who represented them in 13 events within a total of five sports. Their second appearance was in 1960 when they sent nine athletes who competed in four sports at eleven events. That was the last that the Federation of Malaya participated in the Summer Games before it was renamed Malaysia.
During this time, they never won an Olympic medal or joined the Winter Olympics.
