Knurr and Spell
Knurr and spell is an old English game pub game that originated in Yorkshire in England.
The primary equipment required for game play are
- Knurr : The ball used for game play is called knurr and is made of hardwood or pottery. The knurr is about the size of a walnut.
- Spell : The stick that is used to strike the knurr is called the spell. The spell consists of two parts, a 4ft long stick, and a piece of very hard wood about 6in long.
- Wooden Trap : A wooden trap with a lever mechanism or spring mechanism is used to propel the knurr upwards.
The game play consists of launching the knur in the air and striking it with the spell. The objective is to hit the ball as far as possible. A good full swing can drive the ball as far as 200 yards. The spell can be swung with both hands or with just a single hand if a shorter spell is used.
In a match, players compete individually, and there can be any number of players in a single match. Each player get to hit multiple times based on what is accepted before the match. The player who hits the farthest is the winner.
