Competitors in the Brazil Jungle Marathon have the choice of two distances: 200km or 100km. The race is completed in stages throughout a week. The longer distance race includes six stages and the shorter include four. Runners are required to be self-sufficient: they have to carry their own foods and provisions with bottled water provided at designated checkpoints. Nights are spent sleeping in hammocks at campsites along the shores of the Tapajos river.
