Jaffa Race
A charity event where 75,000 Jaffas lollies, courtesy of Cadburys, are let roll down the steepest street in the world - Baldwin Street Dunedin in New Zealand. Jaffas are red-shelled chocolate candies popular in Australia and New Zealand.
Baldwin Street, Dunedin - home of the annual jaffa raceThis annual event was first held in 2001, and is held in July each year. Each jaffa ball is about 2.8 gram balls, and they can reach speeds of up to 100kph down the 19-degree gradient, 350m long street. The event is also known as the 'running of the balls.'
Each jaffa is numbered, and sold for $1 each, with the money raised going to charity. There are three races, and prizes for the people who bought a ticket for the winning Jaffas in each race.
