Ireland first competed at the Winter Olympic Games in 1992, and has missed just one edition of the event since then.
Including 2014, the nation has fielded a total of 31 athletes at the Winter Games including the five-man team that competed in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, skeleton and snowboarding at the 2014 Sochi Winter Games in Russia. All of the five athletes belong to the Irish diaspora, who were born or live and train outside Ireland.
The European nation is still waiting for its first-ever medal at the Winter Games.
