I’m lucky to live in what is considered a temperate climate here in Ireland.
However when working in Belfast during the ‘troubles’ we had to be just a bit careful where to do our distance training. It might have been quite hazardous to find oneself in the ‘wrong area’ by mistake!
Personally I never had a problem in that respect as like in Perth there was a long tow path by the river Lagan which was just wonderful to run along. We sometimes used to run from Queens University to Lisburn and back – about 18 miles. Not only was there no traffic or its fumes to contend with but the scenary by the river was absolutely inspiring.
So if you find yourself in Belfast you really must at least visit the Mary Peters Track – it’s just beside the River Lagan.

Cheers from Steve
