Old Comments
The results of this poll show that most people think that fitness is important for bowling. The number of people that actually do something about it would obviously be lower. The selection of comments below certainly highlight the differing views on this subject.
- Ones control over time is linked to stamina
- Bowling can be done by fat people
- If you want to do it well then you have to be fit!
- Your Knees, back, shoulders, feet, and hands will thank you
- All you need is strong arms
- You'd fall over and be unable to pick up the ball if u were unfit but there's no running around.
- Look at all the pro bowlers that are over weight
- Physical coordination is important to precision timing and execution using the laws of physics to use less to get maximum results.
- Improve performance and reduce risk to injury.
- Bowling is often associated with pizza-eating, beer-swilling, potbellied guys who don't work out. An emphasis on fitness training in bowling should be made to get away from that stereotype.
- You don't need training to do bowling, what about all those random people that go to bowl for fun? And most bowlers are fat!
- Your fitness is very important because you need to get a lot of balance when you bowl because if you slide on one foot
- Without knowledge you cannot improve
- Any one can throw a ball
- Fitness is a basic tool for success in bowling
- It is not that much of a physical sport. Even if you want to call it a sport!!
- Bowling is just an excuse to drink beer
- Bowling is for little fat kids!!!!!
- I'm fat and I bowled a 300
- I know a lot of the bowlers who play for team England and many who are on their way to becoming good enough. You just need to look at them to see that fitness isn't the most important thing but they will all tell you that it is somewhat important to help avoid injury
- As Tenpin Bowler myself for the last ten years I find that fitness isn't as important as the drive to do well and improve your game. Also people who try to do very well but forget that bowling is only a game often wind up being disliked
- Flexibility is at the utmost importance too
- Fitness training is one of the most important steps to prevention of injury
- You do not have to be in shape. The game is all mental and how you throw the ball
- Bowling is a sport just like any other and should be taken seriously
- Bowlers do not have to be athletes, only good at following very repetitive movements
- Unfit person not likely to excel in any physically demanding sport
- Repetition is the most important facet of the game. Without proper conditioning of the muscles used in the sport, and there are MANY, repetition becomes more difficult as you play. There goes your game, doing the same thing the oil on the lane does, running down.
- It's not important because it doesn't matter how strong you are if you can't hit the pocket
- I'm not doing it often
- You don't have to be in good shape to bowl. a lot of big people bowl and are awesome at it. Its all in your head. It isn't important at all.
