Peter John Hudson AM (born 19 February 1946) is a former Australian rules footballer, arguably the greatest full forward of all time. He became a part of New Norfolk (1963-1966), Hawthorn (1967-74, 1977) and Gelorchy (1975-76, 1978-81). During Hudson’s amazing career, his average 5.64 goals per game, known to be the best in league in history and his 150 goal season in 1971 even matched Bob Pratt’s record for most goals in a season.
Greatest Sporting Achievements
Peter Hudson became Hawthorn’s Best and Fairest twice, leading goal-kicker from 1967 to 1971 and 1977 and premiership player in1971. He ranks 3rd in most goals kicked for the club. Hudson was the VFL leading goal-kicker four times, represented Victoria ten times and became part of the All-Australian twice. He represented Australia in “The Galahs” World Tour in 1968. Peter Hudson was also a recipient of the William Leitch Medal in 1978 and 1979. He was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1996 but later was elevated to “Legend” status.
Why Was He So Good?
What made Peter Hudson the total full forward package were his brawny physique, bright decision, positive hands and lethally perfect kicking technique, using flat punts. His ability to win the ball was also hard to pinpoint. One of his skills also includes the ability to silently sneak away from the opposition attendant full-back.
