- American Armand Duplantis breaking the pole vault record at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, with a leap of 6.21 meters.
- A women's cycle tour race returned in 2022, under the title Tour de France Femmes.
- 80-1 outsider Rich Strike stunned the horse racing world with the second biggest upset in Kentucky Derby history
