- To all the people reading this ... if your heart rate is slightly elevated - DO NOT WORRY .. it is normal for it to change constantly ... sometimes it's higher and sometimes lower. It can safely go much higher than it's beating, at least double what you likely think is a "safe range" so just relax. Take a deep breath and breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth for 5 or 10 minutes and let your shoulder muscles relax and slope down. Feel your heart slowing down and being calmer and realize you are okay, your heart is MADE to beat and pump blood..it was designed to do so. Just relax and take it easy, if you have a feeling that you need further testing then by all means go see your doctor but realize that anxiety will increase your heart rate greatly and it can fluctuate easily by 20 - 100 beats per minute MORE during an acute anxiety episode. I normally have a resting heart rate of around 70 and have had my heart rate up to nearly 200 during an acute anxiety attack and I am fine, I just biked for like 3 hours today and it only went up to like 125 - 130 bpm. Moral of the story is that it's good to be concerned but don't worry yourself sick! Your heart is made to pump - it's a muscle! :) (from Chris, Nov 2012)

I'm walked up the stairs and my heart rate was 180 is that bad??? - ChrisM Zoe (2016)
3 years later..... yes. 180 is high.. you could be dehydrated or you could be out of shape. It depends on your age, health and etc. I'd suggest you walk up and down the stairs each day carefully watching your heart rate. 180 is at the upper limits. - Nordlys (2014)
Two months ago, I was fat, sedentary and my heart rate was 100.
I started to walk, and then run, and to loose weight (with also a diet).
I lost almost 7 kilos and my heart rate today is 64 (lately it was 72). I notice I fell better and better, but is normal that it goes down in so short time? Just loosing weight and doing 2 hours of sport at day? - Monkey D. Luffy Nordlys (2017)
Yes its normal if you lose weight your resting heart rate decreases as well as your cardiovascular system and respiratory system improve. These 3 things caused your resting heartrate to decrease greatly.
I will give you my personal data.I was sedentary and i hadnt exercise much for a year and a half and my heary rae was 76 while at rest. After 2 months of running my heartrate decreased from 76 to 40s usually around 40 41 42 range it someyimes goes to 39 and 38.Added i lost 5.5kg from 67 to 61.5. - ChrisM Nordlys (2016)
Yes, that very well can happen. - Nikki (2013)

I know this post is old but did you finally get an answer for your daughters health issues? I only ask because it sounds like Lyme Disease to me. I hope she is doing better and received the care she needed. - Michael kea (2014)
You may have to have alook at your family history of chest pains or illnesses,if your family history does not consist of any symptoms she is having then it is most likely that it is caused by depression/stress.
You could try to tell her to meditate every morning, it really helps and frees the mind, in addition yoga may also be an alternative.
As i said i am not a doctor, but common depression can cause a lot.
I hope she gets well soon! - Sjazzy kea (2014)
Partially sounds like papilledma and the heart rate could be stress from the pressure headaches, double vision, vertigo etc - Alice Traynor kea (2016)
Have her autonomic nervous system checked. Also pulmonary arterial hypertension. I have both of these and have those same symptoms....Good luck - Joey Grixti Jr kea (2014)
you shou ld get her thyroid checked t2 t3 and t4 this sounds a lot like a Thyroid problem. also get her to do a tilt test you can get this done by a cardiologist I think she'll be fine - Samantha kea (2014)
It sounds like it could be POTS which stands for postural orthostatic tachycardia which isn't dangerous though very unpleasant. It is characterised by very fast heart rate and dizziness etc on standing and walking and low heart rate when laying down.A lot of doctors don't know about it so you might have to research it yourself and tell your doctor the information. There is a lot of info online. - Michael kea (2014)

My blood pressure has always been low to low normal, but resting pulse 90s since first checked in my early teens. Vegetarian most of my 40 yrs of adult life, never smoked (anything) or 2nd hand stuff, consistant 5'7", 122 lbs. and never overweight. Only decaf coffee and tea. Taken two anti seizure Rxs for past 20 yrs, so see neurologist every 6 . (Which are surely calming). NEVER illegal anything. No hidden caffeine. Calm lifestyle. Have a calm little dog. Went to donate blood yesterday, and my pulse was 109. 5 minute wait and retest at 94 so was able to give as usual. Lately occasional fluttery heart feelings out of nowhere. My only real health issues have been lifelong facial headaches, other assorted pains, and 20 yrs of cervical dystonia ( hence the 2 anti seizure Rxs). I don't breathe very deeply (habit since a kid) and would consciously changing to slow, deep breaths help??

Still I am the same age, and I am knowingly have a constant dehydration habit which has happened since I was 6, It is severe, and I can not get better, if you can drink water, AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Do NOT skip out on drinking water. One cup per hour//two litres or more. It helps relieves the density of your plasma making your heart work less. I physically forget to and have become immune to thirst, so please if you can try and safe your self it has ruined my life. - Nova Skye Courtney (2016)
Sweetheart you should be fine. It is not uncommon for young women and men to have increased heart rates especially when going through puberty. This is due to the fact that your body wants to change and mature and it takes a lot of work to do it. You will be just fine and I'm sure you will grow into a beautiful smart young lady. Best regards, Nova :) - Proud Grandma (2016)
For the last 4 months my heart has been skipping on average 200 beats a hour, this is constant for the lats 4 months and the meds have changed nothing.. I can feel every one of them and it is bothersome to say the least. The doc said all my tests came back fine but there has to be a reason and it can not be good for my heart to continue this way.. Any info would be greatly appreciated.. - Ella Shanie (2016)
You need to work out ASAP to increase your heart lung capacity. I've had something similar happen when didn't work out regularly for a period of 2 years. - Nova Skye Ella Shanie (2016)
I agree! She needs exercise to help level out her bodies organs so everything works on the same playing field. The heart skipping at that rate is definitely a concern however and I would definitely get a consultation done to ascertain the cause of the issue. Your doctor says your fine but we know our body's inside and out and we definitely know when something is wrong. - Charlie (2016)
I'm 15 and my heart rate was 109 (resting )what could this mean I feel very ill a lot too with bad headaches and dizziness a lot :/ - Nova Skye Charlie (2016)
Are you male or female? Sorry just curious but if you're worried about it don't be. You're going through puberty and things are going to change in your body and your body is just preparing for it! :) good luck! - Kimberly Buchanan (2016)
My heart rate is 52 I fill sick to my stomach is this bad I'm scared and I don't have insurance and the only hospital close is the heart of Florida what should I do anyone - Nova Skye Kimberly Buchanan (2016)
What age are you if you don't mind me asking? I can better answer your question if I have that info. But if you are between 18-25 52 is phenomenal. It means that you're physically in perfect health as long as that is your normal heart rate however, if it is actually a significant drop then I would go see a doctor as soon as possible. - Paweł (2015)
Hello. My mum's heart rate was recently 94 bpm. Normally, her heart rate hesitates from 80 to 95 bpm. These are, of course, not ideal values. If you could, what would you recommend me to advise my mother? - Nova Skye Paweł (2016)
Exercise if possible! Exercise is crucial in maintaining the balance of your organs. If one isn't getting what it needs the others have to make up for it. 👍 - David (2015)

Yes this is very good for her age! Is she an athlete? Does she work out or exercise daily? Most adult athletes have a heart rate between 50-60 under the age of 25. So if she does exercise or work out then keep it up and she will be happy and healthy ! - Tom (2014)

- My 92 y.o. Type II DM Mom's normal range of BP readings is 140/80, normally pulse of 78 or less. In the past couple of days, her BP has been low, 116/78, P:72. Should there be a concern over this. She takes Toprol-XL, 0.25mg, 1.5 in the morning and 1.5 tablets, and (Amlodipine in the morning) in the evening for her BP. I'm afraid to give her the Toprol @ night when her BP is lower than normal. - A faster heart rate can be a sign of heart disease. This is also followed by shortness of breath, chest pain, back pain, dizzy spells, blurred vision. Please if you have a fast resting heart rate, and have any of these symptoms see a Dr. Let them know you would like to get tested for heart disease. My moms heart disease was found way to late. If only the drs would have tested her 15 years ago she may not be so bad off. Now she is in need of a bypass. (from TCG, Nov 2012)

- I'm a 18 year old female; 120 pounds, 5 feet, 1 inch tall. I usually try to get 30 mins of fast walking for five days a week. Whenever I've gone to the Doctor's for a check-up over the past few years I asked about my heart rate and they said it was within the normal range, but a little high. They said, "Oh, you're probably just nervous because you're in a hospital." Recently I went to the clinic to get a Doctor's Note and my heart rate was 104. I was upset, worried and anxious though ... But still. It seems really high for someone as young and healthy as me! It's not like a don't get any exercise. Anyways, the Doctor looked in my file and said a few other times my heart rate was in the 90's, but then she said once it was 72! I have one cup of coffee each morning, that's the only caffeine I have. I don't eat excessive amounts of sugar, either. Over the past week or two I've noticed my heart beating really fast at bedtime (10:00 PM). All week I wasn't even tired at nightime, which is strange for me because I used to lack energy and be really tired! A couple of times this week when just standing, it felt like my vision went fuzzy ... I felt dizzy, but not enough to fall over. I am a slightly anxious/worried person. Also, I have a quiet heart murmer, a 2/6. This was discovered two months ago ... (from Melanie Diamond, Oct 2012)
- Hi, I'm 41 years old female and my heart rate is about 55 and BP is about 88/50. Should I be concerned? I read somewhere that if I climbed a few flight of stairs and heart rate increases, then it shouldn't' be something to worry about. But isn't that the case generally? I did that and my heart rate went up to 74 though my BP has risen, it is still on the low side at 101/61. What does all these mean? Please advise. Thanks. (from ES, Oct 2012)

- I'm a 28 year old female. I am 5'8" and around 200 pounds and my rhr is 120+. I do not exercise or even leave the house most of the time. I used to weigh around 150-175 lbs and was an athlete. I have severe anxiety and am currently on 1mg of Xanax 5 times a day and I also suffer from severe back and neck pain and headaches/migraines. I am currently taking 10/500mg of Hydrocodone 4 times a day (which is a lot better than being on both 15 and 30 mgs of Oxycontin, Oxycodone, and Morphine plus 10mg Percoset and 10/500mg Hydrocodone plus 8 mgs of Xanax all at one time). I just had a sinus and ear infection and was put on antibiotics and steroids because it was so bad and that's when I noticed that my heart rate was up, that I was shaking extremely bad. I felt like I was vibrating, my teeth were chattering and my vision was vibrating along with my body sometimes, and that my Xanax wasn't working (my doctor told me it was from the steroids and that it would stop an I would go back to normal about 2 weeks after I stopped the steroids) but that was around a month ago. I now have a fungal infection on my skin and am on 500mg Keflex 3 times a day and Nizoral 2% cream 2 times a day. - I'm a 66 year old male. About 25 years ago I had a myocardial infarction. It was treated with angioplasties for ten years and then I had triple bypass. As a consequence I have been working out steadily for 25 years and considered myself relatively fit. Last week I was working out and experienced dizziness. I stopped, got a drink of water, and walked back to the equipment. I noticed surprisingly my heart rate had not recovered from the elevated level during the workout. I tried again for a couple of minutes and then quit. My heart was beating out of control. I went to emergency at a nearby hospital. Medication could not slow the heart down. Eventually electrical shock was successful. I spent 4 days in the hospital and was then sent home with instructions to take medication if my heartbeat was over 60 bpm. I did take the medication when the heart was at 63 bpm and within an hour it had dropped to 46. Since then it has stayed in the low 60's. I am reluctant to take the medication now. Tomorrow I see my cardiologist. What's your take on all this? (from joel, July 2012)

- I'm a 59, African American woman who has diabetes, asthma and sarcoidosis. I've taken my waking heart rate several times and it is 95 or 96. I've had the following symptoms for the past six week or even longer. While teaching my middle school class, I've had severe shortness of breath that last maybe one minute. I can't make it up one flight of stairs without having an asthma attack or at least that is what it feels like. Now I've noticed I have coughing jags without provocation. I try to work out using 10-minute trainer and that is even too much. I'm constantly tired and go to sleep because of exhaustion. I'm afraid I'm on the cusp of a heart attack. I've had chest pain, and was taken to the hospital from work but when blood work was taken in the hospital, I was told I did not have the enzymes that are present after an attack. I even had chest pain while at the doctor's office and was placed on the EKG and was told nothing was there. However, I was told because I have scardosis/asthma my discomfort and pain was probably the cause of my discomfort. I'm really afraid, but when I go to the doctor and/or hospital and nothing is found, I'm afraid I will be seen as patient just wanting attention to get out of work. Please give me some advice that will help me understand what is happening to me. I don't want to have a heart attack and then have the doctors say, "Oh, I'm sorry I missed that." I know worrying is not helping the situation. Any advice you can give me I would really appreciate. Thank you. (from Gloria, May 2012)
