Trampoline at the Olympics

Trampoline is an event of the gymnastics discipline at the Summer Olympics. It was added into the Olympic program beginning with the 2000 Sydney Games, and still continues to be a part of the games.

The sport involves bouncing on a trampoline to heights up to eight meters, while the athletes perform acrobatic movements such as twists and somersaults in mid-air. Points are awarded for difficulty, execution and flight time. There is an individual event for men and women, which has been unchanged since the first event in 2000.

Each trampolinist does a compulsory routine and a voluntary routine. Judges score them based on the degree of difficulty, the execution of the movements, the time of flight and horizontal displacement.

As in previous years, there are two events, a men's and womens trampoline competition.

Results History

In the men's event, China has had the most success with a gold medal win in 2008 and 2012. Lu Chunlong and Dong Dong, both from China, won the gold and bronze respectively in 2008 Beijing games. They traded their podium finishes in the 2012 London games. Including 2021, China has the most medals in the men's event, ahead of Belarus who have won gold in 2016 and 2021.

In the women's event, Canada has been the most consistent team so far in Olympic women's trampolining. Canadian Karen Cockburn won a medal at each of the first three times the event was held, winning two silvers and one bronze medal. Another Canadian, Rosie MacLennan, won gold medals in both 2012 and 2016, and finished fourth in 2020. Chinese athletes have also performed well. In 2020, China finished in first and second place.
