Adam Gilchrist: Cricket Legend
Adam Craig Gilchrist (born November 14, 1971) is an Australian former cricketer widely considered to be the greatest wicket-keeper—batsmen in the history of cricket. Born in Bellingen, New South Wales, his family transferred to Dorrigo, Junee, Deniliquin and Lismore where he captained the Kadina High School cricket team. In 1989, he was offered a scholarship by the Richmond Cricket Club.
He was nicknamed “Gilly” or “Churchy”, help redefine the role for the Australia national cricket team through his destructive batting. He was an aggressive left-handed batsman and a record-breaking wicket-keeper. He made his international debut in 1992 while his first One-Day International appearance was in 1996 in India and his Test debut in 1999.
Greatest Sporting Achievements
Gilchrist holds the record for the most dismissals by wicket-keeper in One Day International (ODI) cricket and the most by an Australian in test cricket. During his entire career, he played for Australia in 96 Test Matches and over 270 One-Day internationals. Adam Gilchrist won several honors throughout his career including the Wisden Cricketer of the Year, International Player of the Year and the Allan Border Medal.

His attacking batting has been a successful part of Australia’s one-day success since he usually opens the batting. It averaged in the upper 40s which is unusually high for a wicket-keeper.
